Local Travel and Leisure Life! SEVEN MILE BRIDGE TROT
Place to Jog on the Islands
I just had to send you this video highlighting our savory 7-Mile Bridge. The answer is easy whenever I am asked the question: Where to go Jogging in the Florida Keys? It is a no-brainier! Nothing is more unusual than running over the ocean in the middle of the Florida Keys. The old 7-mile bridge operates a jog park, open daily!
Annual Half Marathon in Old Town Key West Runners should look at doing the Annual Half Marathon in historic Old Town Key West. You do not have the logistics hassles with the bridge closing and using the buses to get back to your car. Plus, lots more people get to cheer for you as you are not isolated on the bridge. You will not find a more scenic running race course, wide open every Jan. Click the website link for race and entry information.
Where do runners go in the Florida Keys? You can run Big Pine Key, the main road is called Watson Boulevard and it goes back over five miles and has a sidewalk and not much traffic. The speed limit is 30mph because of all the cute little key lime deer! Believe me, these deer are not that hard to see if you pay attention. When it is hot, they sleep. It takes us about 2+ hours to get down here from Fort Lauderdale, an easy trip.
Out for a Scenic Jog It is sweet to walk or jog here between Marathon and Big Pine Key. You will see Pigeon Key out about two miles from the Marathon side of the bridge. The race goes so quick, with all the people and views. Took me forty-seven minutes.
