The island is impressive when you fly over it, and the waterway of Boot Key Harbor is easy to see. The area has one of the largest sailboat mooring fields you will find on the islands. Tall Ships need a safe place to moor the boat, using their dingy to get to the land. Boating is supreme, as just down the keys is the Seven Mile Bridge, Pigeon Key, and then Big Pine Key.
We did a lot of boating in that area and had a blast. There are some really good boater friendly dock up bars in Marathon. Burdines Waterfront Bar is a good place to enjoy the views and seafood.
The larger boat enter Boot Key Harbor from the Seven Mile Bridge or southwest side of the waterway. Medium sized boats can enter through the Sister Creek Channel, next to Sombrero Beach Drive. The bay is nicely protected and really good for Kayak Trips.
We live and work in the Keys realize the importance of protecting our waterfront environment. A Boater's Guide to Professional Marine Services lists all member facilities throughout the Florida Keys. Pick up a free copy to Florida Keys Marine Services for help with service or supplies.
Tune into to VHF Channel 68 when Boating in Marathon and the local news on Boot Key Harbor. This is a fantastic area to use the kayak and Cruise the Harbor. For a few minutes every day on the Radio, the news of Marathon Harbor takes center stage. The waterfront makes us smile and keeps us in touch with nature.
