Yeah...The Florida Keys! |

Wanted to highly recommend you book a Fishing Charter with Captain Brian Helms out of Islamorada. I have been fly fishing with him several times. Great personality and patience and we never fail to have a great day targeting Tarpon, Bonefish, Redfish or Permit. I even went up to the Everglades for Snook where we had an incredible day catching those toothy creatures on light tackle!

Nice vacations and travel pleasures are just better on the islands. The Florida Keys are so special to us, we are lucky to live and work in this national treasure. It is hard not to like the water and fun places to see on the islands. Our boat journeys take us to interesting places for scenic photography and video, and it is great to share any entertaining findings. Yeah for good winds and smooth sailing!
The most amazing videos and photos of my favorite place on the planet! This island is very special, and each trip down it just grows on you. Thank you for the vacation inspiration. Wish I could live there, but Key Largo is not bad either!

Seafood is king of the dinner table on the islands. Most restaurants have slightly different versions of recipes on the menu, and we are lucky to have so many good restaurants in once city. Here are some of the most popular seafood dishes. Where to go to try them: Bagatelle, Pepe's Cafe, Schooner Wharf Bar, Louie's Backyard, Salute on the Beach, La Trattoria, El Meson De Pepe, Conch Republic Seafood, Turtle Kraals Dockside, the Half Shell Raw Bar, and the A&B Lobster House. Each of these know how to prepare seafood dishes just right!
| 1 | Conch Fritters (Tenderized conch, peppers, onions, spices, fried golden brown, with lemon, cocktail sauce, key lime mustard) |
| 2 | Clams on the Half Shell (Shucked to order, served over ice, horseradish sauce, lime, cocktail sauce) |
| 3 | Tuna Tataki (Pan seared ahi tuna, sesame seeds, wasabi, pickled ginger, hiyashi wakame salad, sesame ginger vinaigrette) |
| 4 | Seafood Kabob (Grilled shrimp, scallop, swordfish kabob, teriyaki sauce & citrus rice pilaf) |
| 5 | Seafood Alfredo (Sea scallops, pink shrimp, grouper, mahi-mahi, mushrooms, fettuccine, parmesan cream sauce) |
| 6 | Caribbean Style Grouper (Seasoned pan seared black grouper, island rice, black beans, pineapple salsa) |
| 7 | Shrimp Diane (Shrimp, cajun seasoning, sauteed with mushrooms, scallions, garlic, white wine, sherry over linguini) |
| 8 | Crispy Lobster Sandwich (Fried lobster, grilled sourdough bread with onion, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, & creole remoulade sauce) |
| 9 | Steamed Shrimp (Jumbo shrimp steamed in key west sunset ale beer, old bay seasoning, key lime juice) |
| 10 | Grilled Flounder (With basil marinated tomatoes, red potatoes, and a light herb salad) |
Louie's Backyard makes a really good Jambalaya. The restaurant on Waddell Avenue in Key West. Their creole recipe on the menu is straight from New Orleans, with a Florida Keys seafood twist. They add jumbo pink shrimp sauteed with sausage, chicken, mahi-mahi, mushrooms, bell peppers, red onions, and spices blended in a flavorful sauce. So good with some white rice, wine glasses, and the waterfront view! I just had to take a moment to comment. Please cast my vote, add link too please. Thanks for the excellent Key West Restaurant Reviews.
Everyone knows, if you are heading on vacation to the Florida Keys, make sure you have your check book to your cash account. Yes, you may not go home, as many people put down payments on property. It does not matter if it is a Trailer on Stock Island or a Home on Shark Key. From low end to high flutter, a simple drive down the keys might be a life changing event. Bring your check book! We will only have to go back to get the kitty. Yeah, our kitty might be moving to Stock Island to be a Keys Cat.
Boyd N. (Plantation FL)We were staying at the Futura Yacht Club Condo units and wanted a couple of kayaks to use. All you do is call and order what you need and they deliver it to you! Yes, A1A Watersports offers single and double kayaks for half-day, multi-day, weekly or whatever your vacation time period. The boats come ready to go with good seat backs, and everything else for a fun time. They even give you a chart of the local waters and all the setup or instructions required to get you going. The ability to keep it at your condo or resort is just so nice. Great job guys.
Roger S. (Key Colony Beach)Hi. Our family went through a four day period of Big Rain on our trip, so we had to switch quickly to the backup plan. Basically, a lot of good things to do have to wait. YES, some events deserve great weather. For instance, snorkeling needs nicely bright sunlight so the water clarity is at its peak. Forget snorkeling on a rainy or very cloudy days, it is just not nearly as good. Save those water-based activities for the good days. What then? First you need rain gear and wet shoes, which are very cheap at K-Mart. Then you can march all around Duval Street, or the main areas at any of the big island cities. You can still have drinks and seafood under the tiki huts, walk the marina docks, catch the live music, and see any of the shows. We made sure this week and weekend has NOT been a huge washout. Our last three days are forecast for pure sun. The reward for Watersports in the Florida Keys!
Nancy S. (Palm Beach)Florida fitness lovers will really enjoy the great escape waiting for you right here in the Florida Keys. Snorkeling and scuba is all about movement, and that is why divers are known for having great abs! You do not even have to have a boat, as you can do so much right off the shore. Party boat dive trips are cheap and it can be out of anywhere from Key West to North of Key Largo. Yes, so fun. My family and friends have completely fallen for scuba diving, adding it in as part of our standard fitness recreation. A super sport and just as good for females. Plus you can look so cute in your colorful bikini or even a hot pink wet suit! Even the mask and fins come in all sorts of zany colors these days. What a playful way to stay fit and cool!
Jackie E. (Miami Beach)One of the most important things you're going to do if you're staying in a hotel with a kitchenette or full kitchen condominium, is to prepare a nice Florida Keys style dish for everyone to enjoy. Easiest on vacation is crock pot food. It will last you for many days, and you can just heat up a bowl when you need a little boost of energy. We always take our recipe book and use local seafood that we buy here during our vacation. A good choice is the Crock Pot Coconut Thai Shrimp and Rice. You use Key West Pink Shrimp for this recipe. Nothing brings out a healthy dish or stew like fresh seafood and this is the best place in Florida to get your tasty treats. It will save you money too! So do not forget your Crock Pot.
Megan H. (Marathon Shores)Only lock up your valuable bicycle to one of the bike racks, as that is Bicycle Parking Rules. Do not use trees or utility poles. Spending a few minutes briefly reviewing the Key West bicycle policy is worth the effort. Our bikes go everywhere with us. We never had a problem with the bikes, and even go up to Stock Island. The Key West Police do make sure about lights at night, that is when the lights must be on. Bicycle travel around Key West stinks only when it rains, luckily it burns off quick. Here are some off our cool picks.
