Islamorada is really special and we have been renting condos and hotels around the area for years. People do not realize how big it is, being part of Upper Matecumbe Key. Look at the map and you will notice the length of it all, from Windley Key as you are heading south and down to Lower Matecumbe further south. There is lots to do, especially on the water. Trips to Indian Key and Lignumvitae Key State Park highlight all the history We like to Rent a Boat for at least two of the days to do the watersports. Stop over at Robbie's Marina (MM-78) for both boat and kayak rentals. Nothing beats the mangrove trail system that is all carved out behind the marina docks. The Miss Islamorada at Bud and Mary's Marina is great for Party Fishing pleasures and you will catch plenty of fish (Sharks - Mahi-Mahi - Mutton Snapper - Porgy - White Grunt - Mangrove Snapper - Yellowtail Snapper). It is a sweet area to enjoy, it is one of the nicest places for nature in Florida.
The thing to do For Sightseeing is the Island Hopper Heli. A heli tour with will make your visit to the Florida Keys the highlight of your vacation. Starts at the Marathon Airport off US1. We came down for the Marathon Seafood Festival. This is the big original Florida Keys seafood festival, one not to miss if you are down on vacation. We did a lot of reef trips to prepared for the Lionfish Hunt Series. The Lionfish invaded Florida in the 1990s, now the range is nc to south america including the Gulf of Mexico. The derby is designed to catch as many as possible. We were sure glad to fly into the MTH Marathon Airport. What a treat it is to fly into the Florida Keys. The Marathon Airport is surrounded by tons of islands and is just too fun to see. I really like the middle keys with plenty to do, but not too crazy like the Duval Street area.
